Volunteers

Students, families, and adults who need Community Service hours for school, church, youth group, scouts or are looking for a fun way to assist the community can easily do so by helping out at the Ludwig’s Corner Horse Show and Country Fair over Labor Day Weekend (Saturday August 31st to Monday September 2nd, 2024) and our Ludwig’s Corner Carnival held July 9th – 13th, 2024

The Volunteer Chair will provide a confirmation letter on LCHSA letterhead, please ask. The LCHSA/Foundation is a 501(c)(3).

COUNTRY FAIR POSITIONS:

Parking:
Parking volunteers assist guests to safely and efficiently park their vehicles in an open field.

  • Control flow through the parking lanes.
  • Direct driver into compact spaces.
  • Later in the day, move through the lot to identify available open spaces.
  • Ensure departing guests exit properly.
  • Direct appropriate vehicle to handicap spaces.
  • Identify special guests and direct them to reserved spaces.

Main Gate:

  • Take cash and make change.
  • Distribute show program.
  • Move traffic down the drive, in order to prevent congestion on Rte. 100.
  • Direct handicap parking and sponsors to appropriate parking areas.

Ticket Booth:
Job entails selling tickets for candy tent and children’s rides. Must be able to make cash change and understand electronic payment systems.

Children’s Games:
You will work with young children to help them with face painting, magnet fishing, glitter painting, etc. Parents of young children may bring their young children for their shift.

Midway Inflatables:
Monitor the children on the inflatable to make sure behavior is appropriate and riders are safe. Must be 16 or older.

Pet Parade:
Saturday from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm
General help with parade participants. Must like a diversity of animals.

Souvenir Tent:

Provide support at the souvenir booth during the assigned shift and/or established operating hours of the booth.

  • Perform duties such as organizing, displaying, hanging, and folding merchandise for sale.
  • Assisting with booth set up at the start of the day and closingat the end of the day if the shift is during these times.
  • Assisting customers with finding sizes, pricing, answering their questions, etc. in a friendly and helpful manner.
  • Making sure the souvenir booth is organized and attractive to LCHS riders, trainers, sponsors, and community visitors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Souvenir Committee Chair.

Volunteer Tent:

General help as needed.

Event Tent
Help set up tables & chairs on Saturday afternoon.
Help break down tables & chairs on Monday morning.

All volunteers are asked to work a maximum 4 hour shift. Please note that we may ask to have you swap a location or time slot, based on need. Please be flexible. Volunteers do NOT do any food preparation, food handling or food sales

HORSE SHOW SUPPORT POSITIONS

Awards

  • Assist with set up and break down of awards tent, ribbons, and prizes.
  • Assist with gathering class results and distributing correlating ribbons and prizes. 
  • Assist with ribbon and prize organization prior to the show.
  • Present awards in the ring as needed.
  • Ensure needed ribbons are at the rings each morning.

Ring and photo op decoration

  • Assist with decorating the ring and photo up areas with plants and flowers prior to the show (Ring crew is available to assist you as needed).
  • Assist with picking up plants from nursery (if available).
  • Ensure proper watering of plants occurs throughout the weekend.
  • Prep flower boxes prior to the show. 

Horse show management

  • Serve as an assistant to the show manager throughout the weekend. 
  • Distribute and collect radios, judging cards, and schedules to show staff prior to the show each morning, and in the evening each night.
  • Stabling support: label each stall with name and number prior to Friday check-in.
  • Turn on music for the show each morning. 

Hospitality

  • The primary responsibility will include making sure judges and other horse show officials/staff feel welcome at the show and have everything they need including food and drinks throughout the weekend.
  • Create and distribute horse show official welcome bags.
  • Collect lunch orders and distribute lunches.
  • Make sure fridges are stocked with drinks.
  • Fill/stock drinks for competitors. 
  • Distribute shirts to jump crew and horse show staff prior to the show. 

Signage

  • Design, print and set up the signs needed for the horse show.

Prize list

  • Opportunity to update the design of the 2024 prize list (InDesign skills required).
  • Select 2024 prize list cover image. 
  • Proof prize list.
  • Ensure all sponsors/awards donors are listed in prize list and corresponding ads are in prize list.

Entertainment coordinator

  • Collaborate with the Show Manager and Country Fair on planned entertainment, day & time in the Rosato Oval.
  • Assist with any PA setup needs the entertainment might need. 
  • Collaborate with Show Manager on live performance of the National Anthem .
  • Communicate with individuals/groups prior to, and/or morning of show, about the anticipated performance time that day. This would also include the Carriages; Mounted Parade of Foxhounds, etc..

Social content

  • While helping with the show, take videos and pictures and tag LCHS.
