Dog Agility Demo at the Horse Show & Country Fair

Sunday, September 2nd

11 am – 4 pm

We will have dogs from the Dog Training Center of Chester County in Exton, PA  and from Flexible Flyers Agility in Honeybrook, PA demonstrating their skills on the grounds at the 2018 Horse Show & Country Fair. The dogs are either in training to become agility dogs, or are active competitors. It can take years to train a dog to be competition ready.

Depending on spacing that day, there may be a couple of obstacles that that the public can practice on with their own dogs.

According to Wikipedia’s definition, “dog agility is a dog sport in which a handler directs a dog through an obstacle course in a race for both time and accuracy. Dogs run off leash with no food or toys as incentives, and the handler can touch neither dog nor obstacles. Consequently, the handler’s controls are limited to voice, movement, and various body signals, requiring exceptional training of the animal and coordination of the handler.”

Positive reinforcement training methods are employed, which uses rewards to strengthen desired behavior (opposite of traditional/aversive training).
